Well, it took me a long time to find this thing, and now I know where it is...this was just a quick jaunt up to a viewing platform atop Stone Mountain in Huntingdon County.
I didn't see any hawks, but I did see a couple of vultures circling over my car!
Getting there was relatively easy, and I've included a map below. After a long drive up Stone Mountain, there are several small parking areas. I approached from the north, and about 50 yards from the summit, I spied a small sign on the right side of the road for the "Link Trail", which has actually been renamed "Standing Stone Trail", but nevertheless, that was where I figure the trail was. Why there is no trailhead near the parking areas, you've got me.
I figured we should head down to the trail sign instead of trying to find the trail along the ridgeline, and as I feared, it took us on a little circle down, then back up the hill. This was mildly annoying, especially since my trusty eTrex GPS told me that we were about 150 feet from where I parked after climbing back up the hill!
The Hawk Watch is easy to find, and it's just a hundred yards or so N/E on the trail. Erin wasn't feeling well, so that's all the further we went, but now I know where the trail is, where the Hawk Watch is, and I'm sure I'll be back.
Just in case you want to find this, too, here's a Google map:
